Owners can often make quick and easy changes to these sites themselves without the need to contact the designer.  Information is held in a database that is then accessible via an administrator's panel (log in). This comes in handy when the owner wants to change items often or pricing themselves or assign someone else like a secretary or assistant to make changes.  This can also come in handy with multiple contributors to the website.
Where I see most of these aspects (especially the marketing) seriously lacking is in DIY and pre-made themes/template options. I see most builders such as Wix targeted to small businesses. And that’s fine, because many small business owners do not set aside budgets for marketing. Many also seem to be okay with spending hours and hours of their own time fiddling with these builders, reading blog articles on marketing, taking online seminars, etc. Occasionally, some realize that their time is also money and that it might actually be better to pull in a pro to handle all of this for them.
In my opinion, there are many free alternatives which offer more customization and are more SEO-friendly — even Google’s free blogging platform, Blogger.com, is more SEO-friendly. However, if you’re not in a competitive local market, and you want a one-page website that you can manage from within your Google My Business dashboard, this simple website builder may be for you.
Yola is a Web-based tool that makes life easy for small business owners who are after a simple, code-free way of producing a professional commercial website. Yola operates a drag-and-drop interface with fully-integrated social features and quite a few handy widgets. It’s worth pointing out that Yola’s free accounts don’t include access to the platform’s useful blogging tool — and so small business owners may ultimately need to go premium in order to unlock Yola’s full potential.

...needing done is a website that has two page styles. One style is for those interested in the makerspace. The other style is for those pages concerning social services. I would like the themes to be obviously related but different. Think masculine/feminine view of the same website. The one requirement is I would like the theme to be built with bootstrap

Hi Cynthia, Great to hear you found the article interesting. I think there is a time and a place for WordPress. It's definitely a powerful platform, but it can be intimidating for anyone not too familiar or confident with website building technology. That's why we like the simplicity of using a website builder like Wix. However, as long as you are happy with the end result, then I'm sure it doesn't matter which platform you use! :) Thanks for reading, - Tom
Pros: You benefit from the skill and experience of a professional to deliver a website that is handcrafted to work for your business, and deliver results. Can be optimised for Search Engines (SEO) to appear much higher up the rankings. Saves you time. Guarantees professional results. More likely to impress clients. You have the option to take your website elsewhere, change hosts and update it as you please.
The question is more important today than ever before, since it is believed that a site’s storage location directly influences its loading time, which in turn affects a business’s ability to attract and retain traffic to the site. To reduce loading time, SITE123 websites are stored on content distribution network (CDN) servers spread across the globe. A visitor will view your site in the fastest manner, when loaded from the closest possible location. Make a website with great performance.

If website is the core of your business- like e-commerce, where every aspect of the site, starting from page loading time to design, SEO etc. will determine the eventual success of your business I'd suggest hire a professional firm and leave the CMS platform to them. They'll most probably use Wordpress but it doesn't matter to you as long as you get timely support. WordPress controls nearly 60% of CMS market and nearly 30% of all websites run on WordPress. So, finding WP developers etc. is pretty easy.
Trouble is, and I’ve tried to navigate quite a few, but within minutes, as a complete Luddite – I get completely bogged down. I even managed to make a mess of the WordPress option. All I need is the most basic site with detail and a pic of my book. I don’t need a pay page and am happy just to direct people to Amazon etc. should they wish to purchase. Even writing this I feel sure you have covered everything I am asking here. But could you offer some suggestions on the best way forward? I should add here (and I know there would be options for me should money not be a problem) that unfortunately throwing a lot of money at this is (unfortunately) not an option.
Squarespace is a professional website building platform designed largely for those operating within  creative industries. The site has loads of high-caliber templates geared at photographers, musicians, writers and art venues. Squarespace’s templates are extremely visual-based — and although they aren’t quite as customizable as the templates some other platforms may offer, small business websites built on Squarespace are some of the Web’s most clean and responsive.

Call these guys. They have a 5 page special going on right now for only $299. These guys did research for me and walked me through the process on how they can build my site and get me ranked high on the search engines. I went live this past week and was listed on google page 1 and in the #1 spot on that page for one of the phrases I wanted to rank highly for. I had no idea about google rankings but these guys knew and did what they were going to do. I was shown how to keep myself in the top spot with a little work. These guys were the best. Visit http://www.websitebuilder.name and ask for Kioky. He designed my website http://www.oceansidehandyman.net and did my site for a deal.
I have a first-hand experience of managing WordPress-based blogs. These site builders and CMS solutions don’t guarantee that you don’t need the professional assistance from a web designer/developer. It comes down to an individual whether he or she is willing to spend 4 hours at some point to make a change or he or she can afford a web designer who could get it done instantaneously while you can manage other stuff.
Everyone knows how important reviews can be – we found that 75% of small business shoppers think it’s important to read them before visiting a business. But what if you are in an industry where your customers don’t always want to broadcast that they’ve visited you? While some clients might hesitate to put a review on Yelp about how helpful your services have been for them, they might be open to leaving a testimonial on your website.
It’s easy to create a low-cost website that lets you communicate with customers and sell products or services. Building a great business website involves purchasing a domain name and hosting, creating content, and then using a website builder to customize your design and publish. Business websites are essential to remaining competitive in today’s market.
GoDaddy’s .com domain name registrations start at $2.99/year. Domain privacy is $9.99/year. Their domain name appraisal services allow you to assess how much a currently unavailable domain name is worth so you can negotiate the best price with current domain name owners. GoDaddy is best for established brands that need to match a domain name with their already recognizable brand name, regardless of its current availability.

A web site is like your giant public bulletin board where people can get information on how to find you, where you are located, what you have to offer, why your service is unique, and what's new in your company. It also is easily updated and changed frequently, and is a communication forum through which your customers can communicate back to you with questions, concerns and feedback on their needs.

As a small business owner, you’re always busy. With so many other things on your plate, you need a small business website builder that’s easy to use but fully functional—but with business financing at the top of your mind, you don’t want to splurge on a website, either. Luckily, there’s no need. Any of the list above are well-priced options for setting up a stellar website, so think through what you need for your small business website, and take the plunge!
Yes Rick it is hard to believe in this day and age given the way consumers shop for products and services that a business would choose not to have a web presence. There are a lot of alternatives out there for low cost or free sites. And while not always ideal it’s at least a starting point. On the other hand, I can understand why it would be so daunting with technology that a lot of small business owners aren’t use to and the ever shifting landscape most small business owners have a hard time figuring out where to step in and are afraid of making mistakes.
A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

They don’t need a lot of info or a complicated, multi-page encyclopedia about you. Just a few simple pages are usually more than enough, as long as it has basic information that’s tailored to their needs and very easy to find. And, most importantly, it should be accurate and up-to-date, since out of date info is one of people’s top pet peeves when it comes to using local business websites.
I am currently looking at setting up a blog for the area I specialise in. I am aware of wordpress.org but have been a bit daunted by the number of webhosts out there offering this and that. One particular issue is that I use macs and I was wondering whether bluehost is compatible with the mac, and whether there are any other extra steps I have to take when using a mac over windows. Would it be as simple as registering with a webhost then clicking one-step installation on a mac?
This is a great post I love it when I saw this mail do we still need a webdesigner I was confused which definitely will say yes… Not because I ‘m a webdesigner… what I make people understand is that webdesign is not just Learn html css well as the industry is still concerned webdesigner are still needed because they have advance knowledge of programming.
This statement is commonly made by specialty shop owners and real estate agents. Real estate agents will add "I already invest high dollars in space advertising." This is probably one of the most frustrating objections for me because the business owners that say this are some of the nicest people I've met - and are usually sound business people. They know how to treat a customer or client with special care.
