Hi Cynthia, Great to hear you found the article interesting. I think there is a time and a place for WordPress. It's definitely a powerful platform, but it can be intimidating for anyone not too familiar or confident with website building technology. That's why we like the simplicity of using a website builder like Wix. However, as long as you are happy with the end result, then I'm sure it doesn't matter which platform you use! :) Thanks for reading, - Tom
Now more than ever, your customers expect to be able to find information about your company online. In fact, most consumers now do research online before they make a purchase, even if it’s to buy something from their local shop. If you don’t have a website, you’re sending a message that your business is stuck in the Dark Ages, or that you’re not interested in finding new customers—and neither of these are messages that you probably want to be sending.
Outdated Website Design, Unoptimized SEO Websites, Wasted Advertising Dollars - Abraham Lincoln once said that the difference between a loser and a champion is the willingness to get back up when you’ve been knocked down. Okay, maybe Lincoln didn’t really say that. But it doesn’t make the statement any less true…especially in the business world. There are all kinds of examples of business venture failures, and eventual success stories in our rich national history of entrepreneurs. You can either learn from those examples, or ignore them. We’ll assume that because you’ve already concluded you need a Website Designer that you want something more than what you’ve had in the past, or what you have right now. If a new prospective Web Designer excels in the areas where your former marketing has failed you in the past, you might be looking at the perfect fit to help propel your business forward!

Hi Filip, glad you found this post useful! A hand-coded website might work if you just need a very simple one-page website, but updating it can quickly become a hassle. Using a website builder (like the ones listed above) gives you easy access to features like contact forms, embedded maps, and more that your visitors are looking for. As a business owner, your time is your most precious asset. Maintaining a hand-coded website takes time away from running your business.

The knot.com is just a spyder web of links and a strategy to rank.. Leads or not, you don’t get competition. Users not getting leads Google it, go to the site, and that’s it. That’s their site. Similar to any big adhoc consulting companies. It’s a lot of people who don’t have work, sitting on the site, wondering why they don’t get work. Further pushing designers from keeping a bill rate, or any traffic.
Whenever I visit a small business website out in the wild, I ALWAYS click on the about page — I want to put a face to the services and just get to know the people behind the company. If I connect with them or their story, I’m that much more likely to work with them, buy from them, and support them. As a business owner, you want to inspire that kind of feeling in your customers — which makes your about page critical to your success. Here are some tips:
I was educated at the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago and have over 7 years of graphic design experience developing t-shirts, posters, flyers, illustrations, web graphics, and many more. All of my work delivers on creating high quality images filled with detail and color. My belief in establishing a good relationship as well as excellent communication with each of my clients helps me produce the professional work they are looking for. My ambitious nature and need to create fuels my drive to always deliver the best for my clients.

Jimdo: A great all-in-one solution that is easy to use which includes an online store, blog and mobile app. Jimdo packages are decently-priced and the website building is done with responsive a web design that look good on every device. However, the number of available templates in this website builder is somewhat limited. You also lack in extra functions and add-ons because there is no official app store. For details about the pros and cons please take a look at our full Jimdo review.
Sitemaps come in two formats. XML sitemaps (these are made for search engine bots, helps search engines discover your content and is good to have from an SEO standpoint). HTML sitemaps are made for your “human” visitors (and what we refer to here.) A sitemap page is a non-fancy index page that lists all the web pages you have on your website. For example check out our sitemap page on https://digital.com/sitemap/.
Our fantastic client, Cape Cod Treasure Chest, needed a fully-functioning e-commerce website with shopping cart to vend their beautiful outdoor furniture. A visit to their website will show you their complete inventory of products, and the design of the site makes it super simple to get from one page to the next. The shopping cart is customer friendly, easy to use and accepts popular credit cards. E-commerce website owners may also opt to accept Paypal to increase the options they give to their customers when they come to the checkout counter. A site that functions as beautifully as this is the solution for most e-commerce businesses because it fully meets the needs of the site owner, the customers and the search engines.
Under “Pages,” I navigated to where I wanted the blog to appear in the navigation — for this template, it was either in the main navigation, the secondary navigation, the footer navigation, or not linked (which means it won’t show up in any navigation, unless you link directly to it from a page within your site). I chose main navigation, to make the blog easy to access from the homepage. Click the plus next to the navigation of your choice, then click “Blog.”
WebStarts provides a rapid solution for small business owners who need a website quick. The platform’s templates boast intelligent layouts, and its design interface is extremely easy-to-use. That said, those in need of a large website or more integrated features will most likely need to upgrade to a premium plan. WebStarts’ free version includes just 10MB of storage for a five page website.
I think for me personally, the web designing and development is around troubleshooting, managing and maintaining the blog/website. I am happy to pay someone now to solve this issue for me but can’t find anyone because I have not built my relationship with the designers yet. So all bloggers should keep in mind that if they have ambitious plans to grow, they will need design and development at some stage of certain degree.

Many people wonder if they should register for a website domain (www.YourName.com) or use a free subdomain (yourname.wordpress.com). A domain isn’t diluted or controlled by association with another brand (like WordPress in our subdomain example). It offers a professional image, a more memorable name, and a site that’s taken seriously as a business asset.
You want to look professional from the start, so consider a custom domain and email address (i.e., [email protected]). You will immediately appear more competent. Luckily, when you buy a business plan from Squarespace — our provider of choice for everything from personal blogs to sleek business sites — you get a custom domain and a year of G Suite, which includes professional email services from Gmail and tons of other biz goodies from Google. WIN.
A) We've been designing websites since the year 2000 and have the experience necessary to build you a professional website. Our team has developed a number of layouts based upon the most current design standards. We customize these layouts to fit your specific business so that you have a unique and custom designed website to professionally represent your organization.

This statement is commonly made by specialty shop owners and real estate agents. Real estate agents will add "I already invest high dollars in space advertising." This is probably one of the most frustrating objections for me because the business owners that say this are some of the nicest people I've met - and are usually sound business people. They know how to treat a customer or client with special care.
Everyone knows how important reviews can be – we found that 75% of small business shoppers think it’s important to read them before visiting a business. But what if you are in an industry where your customers don’t always want to broadcast that they’ve visited you? While some clients might hesitate to put a review on Yelp about how helpful your services have been for them, they might be open to leaving a testimonial on your website.
Gone are the days of custom made, hand coded websites being the only option available; if you’re in the market for a new website, there are now an overwhelming range of options to choose from. I’m a London based web designer in Barnet / Enfield, and many of my clients are unsure what’s right for them. They know they need a website. But do they hire a web designer? Will they need a site built completely from scratch, or based around a template? Do they attempt to build one themselves using one of the increasingly popular “build your site online for free” type services?

This is the page most people will see first, and as such, it should tell everyone who you are and what your company does. The content on your homepage should be intriguing enough to capture the attention of your visitors within seconds. Your homepage needs to be well-designed, load fast and look professional. There are studies that show that you have 0.05 seconds to convince people stay on your website.

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

You have a great business idea, you have great products, and you know that the Internet is today’s greatest resource for potential customers. Only one thing stands between you and the 700,000,000 people in the world who have Internet access: you aren’t a web designer. At this point, you say to yourself, “I need to hire a web designer to get my small business on-line.”
Not only are all of these people able to see your website, but they can also interact with you through it. Using email, contact forms, guest books, and chat apps, you can talk with customers from the other side of the globe, get feedback about your new products and services, or even ship orders thousands of miles away. And people might come to your website from all different places, using search engines or Google Maps.

To make a website for your small business, you must choose and register your website domain, choose a web hosting provider and package, plan how your website and logo will be designed, and then design your actual site. Many tools help you do this, including outsourcing platforms or agencies, web hosting providers, and website builders. When done successfully, a website can grow traffic, brand awareness, and sales.
Hi Chad, Thanks for the great feedback I'm so glad you found it interesting! Depending on the level, scale and budget of your business, I would recommend using Wix. The Wix Bookings App means you can take bookings 24/7, accept secure payments, offer appointments, classes, workshops etc., sync with your Google Calendar, send out auto-reminder emails to clients, and manage your business right from your phone with the Wix Mobile App. You can use Wix Bookings for free, but you will need to sign up to a Business Premium Plan to accept payments through your site, and unlock other advanced features. The cheapest Business plan is the Business Basic plan at $20 a month. You can read our Wix Pricing Review for a full look at each plan. If you wanted a more ecommerce focused builder, check out Shopify or BigCommerce. Both are specialized ecommerce builders which have powerful tools to grow and support your business. While they are more focused on physical goods, you can download apps and use their in-built features to sell services and digital goods. You can read our in-depth reviews on each by following the links. Hope that helps and best of luck with the business, Lucy
Bluehost offers great website security with a free SSL certificate and site backup in their larger plan. Bluehost offers three plans for small businesses, each with free features like a free website and a domain name. Starting at $2.95, their Basic plan offers one free website, 50GB of SSD storage, unmetered bandwidth, one free domain name, and five email accounts with 100MB per account.
Then came the world wide web and a new disruption to the commercial status quo: the digital transformation. As more and more consumers realized they could find what they needed online faster and more effectively than a phone book, behavior shifted away from using the printed directory. By 2011, 70 percent of all Americans rarely or never used printed phone directories. Also in 2011, more than 59 percent of consumers were already going online to find local businesses.
