About 95% of the time, they end up paying us to do everything for them. And I’m not just talking about difficult stuff like creating a compelling logo, I’m talking about simple things like updating text on a page. I guess they realize that their money is better spent on having an expert manage their site while they manage other aspects of their business.

... We imagine that the site will be built as a single page application, in a modern web framework such as React, Vue, or Angular, though we are open to other options. The site will be form heavy, so proficiency in local state management is important. The backend server for manipulating the files will be built separately, although ideally the recruited
Website content is the copy you write for the pages on your website. Business websites work best when they’re simple, clear, and easy to navigate, with straightforward text and a single call to action on each page. Business websites also tend to have five essential pages, including Home, Products (or Services), About Us, Blog, and Contact Us pages.
Having a website also allows your local business to sell more often to existing customers and reach additional customers. If you offer products and services for sale on your website, you give your customers a chance to buy on their own time and on their own terms. You can improve customer retention by offering personalized accounts that include customer profiles, transaction histories and product recommendations. Plus, your local business may have the chance to become a state, regional, national or even global business if you are willing to ship products to customers outside the local market.
For businesses that aren’t brick and mortar — a graphic designer working out of their home, for instance — list your office hours and time zone so that customers know when you’ll be available and answering emails/calls/etc. This will help prevent 7 pm emails from customers expecting an immediate response. It will also help you separate work hours from actual life hours — something that can be difficult when you work out of your house.

For decades, dry cleaning businesses were able to rely on neighborhood foot traffic to bring in business. But as new on-demand apps like Rinse and Cleanly start to gain ground online, it’s critical that your business also shows up in search engine results to compete. If a potential customer would generally prefer a local brick-and-mortar dry cleaner, but they find an on-demand service when they search online, you could lose their business for good.

A worthy concern should be about the potential customers that do use the computer and CAN'T FIND YOU. Statistics prove that 65% of the population in rural areas uses a computer at least once per week, and 85% in metropolitan areas use a computer. These percentages have NEVER decreased. It is likely that they will continue to increase. A website keeps you in sync with this trend.

Hi Linix, Thank you for your question! We would always recommend small businesses sell online with their own website. Most decent online store builders (check out Shopify) come with excellent blogging functionality, so you can integrate your blog with your online store. This doesn't tie you down to one selling avenue. Good online store builders can provide a lot of help with SEO (search engine optimization) and make sure your website / blog ranks higher in Google, so people can find it in the first place. Your wife wouldn't have to sell many products through her organic coffee brand's online store before the monthly fee looked pretty small. For these and other reasons, we'd always say it's sensible to get both an online store and a blog. With them working in harmony, you have more chance of making a success of your online business I hope this helps and good luck! Fred
A Website Designer and a Website Developer are technically 2 very different things. As far as job titles and job responsibilities go, a Website Designer would be responsible for the visual layout choices and aesthetic design of your website, whereas a Web Developer actually builds the website using various tools at their disposal. You might say it’s a little like the relationship between an architect and a general contractor. The architect lays down the design blueprint, and the contractor makes the design happen. But as far as most business owners are concerned, the terms are largely interchangeable. So, for the sake of clarity, we will be assuming that by saying, “I Need a Website Designer,” that you are a business owner, and you’re looking for someone to build or rebuild your company website. We’ll just pretend Website Designers do both jobs, and move on. 😊

You can add a reservation widget, which again can save your hosts time and make operations more efficient. You can build an online community with recipes, blogs, and places to get local produce.  You can become not only a local favorite, you can gain popularity nationwide and turn your brand into a product all its own. There is SO MUCH a website can do to boost your bottom line without adding more customers, and while you may have enough customers now, you never know what the next decade will bring. It’s best to get your foot in the door with digital now in the event that it’s necessary in the future.”
