They don’t need a lot of info or a complicated, multi-page encyclopedia about you. Just a few simple pages are usually more than enough, as long as it has basic information that’s tailored to their needs and very easy to find. And, most importantly, it should be accurate and up-to-date, since out of date info is one of people’s top pet peeves when it comes to using local business websites.

The way a lot of people think about getting a new website is, they have a certain amount of money and they think, “If I pay less money for a website, I’ll have extra money left over, therefore I win”. And so they’ll go and get a Square Space or a Wix or a Go Daddy website, and they’ll think because they’ve saved money they’re coming out ahead of the deal.

Web Design and Social Media Marketing. No-Nonsense Problem Solver. Geek Not Spoken Here. WEB DESIGN: I develop responsive websites with WordPress which is the industry standard for website development. Responsive design makes the most sense when developing your new business website because the design adjusts itself to the size of a user's screen. Your website visitors will be able to view all of your content on a desktop computer, laptop, phone, tablet, or TV. SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING: I am not a consultant who tells you what to do. I am a marketing expert who does the work for you! I am the social media expert at Abuzz Creative and I manage social media channels for businesses of all sizes with creative, engaging posts that entice followers to like and share. I have the expertise to create an online buzz for your business with creative, engaging posts and custom graphics on social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. COLLABORATOR: HarborActive computer training initiative for northern Michigan. Teach hands-on social media marketing and online marketing training classes for residents of the communities around Little Traverse Bay. SOCIAL IMPACT: I support the causes that mean the most and I am very involved with my community as a volunteer and committee member to various non profit organizations. Chairman of the board for a local chamber of commerce.
You have come to the right place!  We can help you showcase your company, gain credibility, sell products with eCommerce, or just provide an informational portfolio.  You can update your website or we can update it for you and all websites we build are mobile responsive and adaptive so it works well on mobile devices and smaller screens.  We can build a website with a strong call to action and setup a website marketing program to bring more traffic to your website.
This was her reply: ‘We opened this place as a bait and tackle shop. Then people wanted coffee so we provided that. Then some asked for sandwiches, so we provided that. Later they wanted a few tables where they could sit and chat while they ate their sandwiches, so we got tables and chairs and began doing lunches. That led to dinners. Then we didn’t have enough room so we added the screened in porch for the summer. People loved the porch so much that we winterized for the colder months. Now that it’s January, we thought we might be able to close one day a week and get some time off. But we can’t. We’re too busy. We’ve never advertised and we’re tired. If a website is going to bring more people in here — no thanks!'”
The development of the site is the actual "building" or putting the graphics, text, links and codes all together so you have web pages that look good and are informative when you see the site on the computer. This is the largest of the three costs and can ranch in price from $500 to $2000 typically. However, the cost of getting a functioning website is generally the same as putting a color ad insert into your local paper once or twice a year. That ad is seen and then gone. The cost of your website is a one-time investment for a tool you own and can continue to use for communication and marketing indefinitely. It is always up - and always accessible.
Let me clarify one point: I'm not saying you should put all your efforts into selling your wares over the internet, though if your product lends itself to easy online sales, you should certainly be considering it. The point to be made here is that you should at the very least have a presence on the web so that customers, potential employees, business partners and perhaps even investors can quickly and easily find out more about your business and the products or services you have to offer.

Call these guys. They have a 5 page special going on right now for only $299. These guys did research for me and walked me through the process on how they can build my site and get me ranked high on the search engines. I went live this past week and was listed on google page 1 and in the #1 spot on that page for one of the phrases I wanted to rank highly for. I had no idea about google rankings but these guys knew and did what they were going to do. I was shown how to keep myself in the top spot with a little work. These guys were the best. Visit http://www.websitebuilder.name and ask for Kioky. He designed my website http://www.oceansidehandyman.net and did my site for a deal.

WebStarts provides a rapid solution for small business owners who need a website quick. The platform’s templates boast intelligent layouts, and its design interface is extremely easy-to-use. That said, those in need of a large website or more integrated features will most likely need to upgrade to a premium plan. WebStarts’ free version includes just 10MB of storage for a five page website.
The creative talent pool at OuterBox is impressive. Their partnership approach to project management truly has clients thinking ‘out of the box’. They quickly become part of the ‘team’. Hi Chad, Thanks for the great feedback I'm so glad you found it interesting! Depending on the level, scale and budget of your business, I would recommend using Wix. The Wix Bookings App means you can take bookings 24/7, accept secure payments, offer appointments, classes, workshops etc., sync with your Google Calendar, send out auto-reminder emails to clients, and manage your business right from your phone with the Wix Mobile App. You can use Wix Bookings for free, but you will need to sign up to a Business Premium Plan to accept payments through your site, and unlock other advanced features. The cheapest Business plan is the Business Basic plan at $20 a month. You can read our Wix Pricing Review for a full look at each plan. If you wanted a more ecommerce focused builder, check out Shopify or BigCommerce. Both are specialized ecommerce builders which have powerful tools to grow and support your business. While they are more focused on physical goods, you can download apps and use their in-built features to sell services and digital goods. You can read our in-depth reviews on each by following the links. Hope that helps and best of luck with the business, Lucy
I’m an affordable, flexible, creative, responsive and communicative website designer. I’ve been told my rates are “insanely” low. I see my role as making the Internet accessible for those of us of modest means. I can build powerful and effective websites for folks who might otherwise not be able to harness the power of the Internet. I can build a website that you can maintain or I can stay on and maintain the website for you. I can also maintain your pre-existing website. I will answer your emails or calls in a timely manner, normally within 24 to 48 hours.
Sampling of existing websites I designed and/or maintain: Backyard Beekeepers Association (a WordPress site I designed), Global Earth Repair Conference (a WordPress site I designed), Inland FoodWise Online – Newsletters and Action Alerts for the Inland Northwest Foodshed (Drupal 7 site built from scratch), Friends of the Trees Society (rebuilt ancient html site using Drupal 7), Inland Northwest Permaculture Guild (Drupal 7 site I’m rebuilding from a previous Drupal 6 site), my friend Gabe’s website Fungi Permastead (a WordPress site I designed), Spokane Community Gardens (a Drupal 7 site), Protect Mill Canyon Watershed (a WordPress site I built and maintain). I co-maintain an existing Joomla website for Crimson Sage Nursery and maintain this blog (utilizing a free WordPress account). I also work part time for WSU maintaining several websites of various projects of the WSU Mt. Vernon Extension office (Western Washington Tree Fruit & Alternative Fruits, Vegetable Research and Extension, Pacific Northwest Vegetable Extension Group, Vegetable Seed Pathology Program, Small Fruit Horticulture Research & Extension Program) and I do work on a pre-existing Drupal 7 website for WSU’s RosBREED program.

I manage a running club. On the advice of a pal, we used Drupal to develop the club website. This went well enough when my pal managed the Drupal site, but when he got too busy, the thing became a nightmare. Our club management (a handful of runners) ended up spending an inordinate amount of time and money addressing Drupal updates and hacks and technical stuff that was far removed from doing what we loved and were good with (managing a running club.)

You can learn some of these over time, but as a blogger, what do you want to spend your time doing, writing articles, or writing code? Most writers don’t want to write code, they want to write articles. Let a web developer and web expert handle those things so you can focus on delivering great articles and great content to your blog members and visitors.

"If you are a beginner and want the easiest, most professional, web-building site - then this is the one. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. The customer support is brilliant. I am in the UK but they replied to my query on a Sunday. A wide selection of templates which are very adaptable plus new features regularly being added. Very cost-effective hosting. Simply the best. You might not have imagined that a web designer would need to know how to code. But nowadays it’s an expected skill for most design jobs. HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language, which is the coding language used to put content on a web page and give it structure. That means it’s how you turn a bunch of words into headlines, paragraphs, and footers. And it’s also how you get the “cool” content like photos, videos, and graphics on a website.

Consider a restaurant. Every restaurant website needs at least three things on their website: an online menu, location & contact info. Do these three things need to be reinvented every time a restaurant needs a website? No! These are conventional features- a website builder can do a great job of conventional things. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel!
Note that you need to have a verified listing on Google My Business to use the website builder. A quick site:business.site check within Google shows about 113,000 results, which consist of both US and international small business owners. Business types include real estate, travel & tourism, computer training and software, summer camps, pest control and many others.
The answer to this can be summed up in one word: rankings. Build-it-yourself websites are great if your goal is just to have some fun playing with a program that will allow you to easily create a web page with no programming skills. If your intention is to make a personal website about your life, your family, a hobby, and you really don’t care if anyone ever finds your site, this is a fine solution. Many such programs are available and they generally won’t cost you a lot of money. Unfortunately, they behave like they didn’t cost you a lot of money, too. Because these template-based programs are mass produced, what you end up with is a site which not only has not been created to fit your needs, but which has also not been created to meet the needs of customers or the search engines. Most of the do-it-yourself web templates out there are built with absolutely no regard for SEO (search engine optimization) standards, and because of this, they will not rank well in Google, Yahoo or MSN (the Big 3 search engines). Without the rankings, you will not have the traffic you need, and you will not be making the profits you want. The worst of it all comes the day a site owner realizes this and starts desperately looking for someone to help them overwrite the code of the template which has been designed so poorly. At this point, regardless of the investment you may have made, it is better to scrap the template site and start from scratch with a real website, custom built for the exact needs of your small business.
Great article, comments and discussion thread...thanks to everyone. My question is which of the site builders would be best for constructing a service business (versus selling and shipping a product) where different service event activity dates/times must be scheduled, payments processed and confirmations and follow-up details sent after purchase? Appreciate your insight. Thx!
I have a SAAS web application built in Laravel that is partially completed and needs additional work and improvements (the previous developer has other commitments). All of the requested updates/changes are in the attached Word Doc. The website is meant for teachers or businesses to provide microlessons to students or employees that they would access

This guy is right on! You should learn new skills that are critical to your success instead of focusing on your business. Just making a website is easy, making one that is easy for your users to navigate, captures your users' interactions, feed that back to a CRM so you can act on it and setting up automation to handle each one properly so you don't lose the customer is not. (And do not forget, the design of your site is critical to the effectiveness of Google and Microsoft Ads. Without them, no one will ever see your new, beautiful site.)
